Fright Night Part II begins after the events in the original Fright Night. Charley (William Ragsdale) now believes that Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon), was nothing but a serial killer posing as a vampire. As a result, he comes to believe that vampires never existed, until Regine Dandridge (Julie Carmen) arrives, intent on seducing Charley into vampirism so she can punish him eternally for destroying her brother.
Charley, along with his new girlfriend, Alex Young (Traci Lind), go to visit Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who is again a burnt-out vampire killer on Fright Night much to the chagrin of Charley. While visiting Peter's apartment Charley sees four coffins being taken into a car. On the way out from Peter's apartment, Charley sees four strange people walk past him, into an elevator. Charley instantly becomes drawn to one of the four, the alluring Regine (Julie Carmen). Charley drives Alex back to her dorm room and begins to make out with her, only to pull away and see Regine staring back at him. An upset Alex storms off, not realizing that something is following her. Another girl leaves the dorm as Alex enters, and she is followed and killed by one of Regine's vampires, Belle. Alex, meanwhile, is unaware that Louie, another of Regine's group, is scaling up the wall outside her window, but he is startled and falls when Alex inadvertently slams her window shut on his hands. Bozworth (Brian Thompson), A bug eating servant of regine, makes fun of Louie before consuming some bugs.
Meanwhile, later that night Charley dreams that Regine comes to visit him, only to turn into a vampire and bite him. The next day Charley talks to his psychiatrist (Ernie Sabella) who assures him that what he dreamed was only natural. Alex finds Charley bowling, per doctor's orders, and Charley agrees to go to the symphony with her. On his way there however he sees his friend Richie (Merritt Butrick) with Regine and opts to follow him. Charley climbs up to a fire escape outside of Regine's apartment, only to be horrified when he sees Regine and Belle attack and drain Richie's blood. Charley runs off to find Peter, and the two of them arm themselves with crosses and crash Regine's party.
There, Charley finds Richie, but is shocked to find him alive and well, with no bite marks on his neck. Regine makes her entrance, doing an erotic dance with a mesmerized Charley. She introduces herself to Peter and Charley, and claims to be a performance artist in town for some shows. Satisfied that what he thought was Regine attacking Richie was nothing but an act, Charley leaves when he remembers his date with Alex; Peter elects to stay behind, While looking around, Peter notes that there are people in the corners of the room biting others on the neck, piquing his curiosity. Noting the odd behavior, he draws his pocket mirror and finds that Regine and Belle, who are dancing in the middle of the dance floor, cast no reflections.
Storming out of the party, Peter runs into Regine waiting for him outside. As he runs down the stairwell Peter again comes face-to-face with Regine, who reveals She is a vampire, the sister of Jerry Dandridge, and has come to take her revenge on both Charley and Peter. Peter runs back home and hides, resolving to tell Charley in the morning what has just transpired. Charley, meanwhile, blows off his date with Alex, returns home and falls asleep, only to be visited by Regine, who bites him on the neck while he sleeps.
Charley, content with the explanation that Regine is a performance artist who only pretends to be a vampire, once again is in denial. He begins to discuss the situation with Alex when Peter arrives to try and warn the couple about Regine but neither believe him. Peter states that he has warned them and runs back to his home, packs his belongings and departs.
Meanwhile, Charley has started to show signs of being a vampire as he is becoming sensitive to garlic and sunlight. After failing to talk to his psychiatrist, he overhears a news report about Richie's body being discovered the previous night. Now believing that everything is real, Charley goes to see Peter, only to find that Peter has gone.
Louie is once again stalking Alex and when Charley shows up he becomes physical. Louie reveals his true nature to Alex and Charley and stalks them in the school library, only to bust through a window and escape after Alex injures him by cramming wild roses into his mouth. Alex and Charley are then arrested by campus police. Peter, meanwhile, is also arrested after he shows up on the set of Fright Night and attempts to kill its new host, Regine, on live TV. Everyone thinks he's lost his sanity as he says, "I have to kill the vampire"; as a result, Peter ends up in a state hospital. Alex is bailed out by Charley's shrink and goes to post bail for Charley, only to find that he has already been bailed out by Regine.
Alex and Dr. Harrison are on the way to the state hospital when the doctor reveals that he is in fact a vampire. He tries to bite Alex only for her to turn the tables on him and run him through with a piece of wood. She then assumes his identity as a doctor and tries to get Peter released. At the hospital, a commotion allows Alex and Peter to escape.
Alex and Peter head to Regine's lair in order to save Charley. They find a disoriented Charley, who is slowly turning into a vampire. They rescue him from an undead Richie, and in the process manage to kill Belle, Bozworth and Louie before confronting Regine. She attempts to escape into her coffin, but finds that Charley has lined it with Communion wafers. Regine manages to knock Alex unconscious and attempts to turn Charley into a vampire, but Peter manages to destroy her with sunlight.
The following day, Charley and Alex discuss the previous day's events, with Alex joking that if she wrote a book about it, no one would ever believe them. They know that there are no more vampires, but acknowledge that they can never be 100% certain. They embrace each other, and a bat can be heard flying away.

Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) is a huge fan of traditional Gothic horror films. He stays up late at night to watch the horror movie TV series "Fright Night" hosted by Hammer Horror style actor, Peter Vincent, who played a vampire killer for many years in horror movies.
Charley discovers that his new next door neighbor, Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire. Upon coming to this terrible realization, Charley tries to tell his naturally skeptical yet loving mother, and asks his friends for their help. In desperation he calls the police but when he reveals his suspicions to them they believe he has a wild imagination and ignore his claims. That night Charley gets a visit from Jerry himself who offers Charley a "choice" (something he claims he lacks) to look the other way about him. Charley can't bear the idea of people being killed to feed this monster so he tries to use his cross only for Jerry to stop him. Jerry then tries to throw Charley out of the window and nearly succeeds until Charley stabs him in his hand with a pencil. In rage and retaliation Jerry destroys Charley's car.
Charley turns to his vampire-hunting hero, actor Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) for help, but Vincent dismisses Charley as an obsessed fan. Charley's girlfriend, Amy Peterson (Amanda Bearse), fears for Charley's sanity and safety so she hires the financially-desperate Vincent to "prove" that Jerry is not a vampire by having him ingest what they claim is "holy water" but it turns out to only be tap water.
Peter Vincent accidentally discovers Jerry's true nature after glancing his lack of a reflection in his pocket mirror, which causes him to accidentally drop and smash the mirror. With this new, terrifying information, Peter flees but Jerry learns of Peter's discovery after finding a piece of his pocket mirror on the floor.
Jerry hunts down and turns Charley's friend, Edward "Evil Ed" Thompson (Stephen Geoffreys), into a vampire. Evil Ed visits Peter tries to attack Peter wards him off with a cross. Jerry follows Charley and Amy to a club. While Charley is trying to call for help, Jerry hypnotizes and takes Amy, who bears a resemblance to Jerry's lost love, whom Jerry has a painting of. With nowhere left to turn, Charley goes to Vincent a second time.
Vincent, frightened from having dealt with Evil Ed, initially refuses, but then reluctantly resumes his "Vampire Killer" role as Charley approaches his neighbor's house. The two are able to repel Jerry's attack using a cross though only Charley's works, since he has faith. Billy Cole (Jonathan Stark) appears and knocks Charley over the banister and to the ground, Peter flees to Charley house where he tries to use the phone until realizing the phone line has been cut, Peter runs up the stairs to check on Mrs Brewster instead finds Evil Ed who takes on a wolf form. Vincent kills Evil Ed after staking him through the heart. Charley finds Amy who has been turned by Jerry into a vampire. Vincent says the process can be reversed, but only if they kill Jerry before dawn.
The two then kill Jerry's live-in carpenter, and day time protector, Billy Cole, who is also the vampire's inhuman bodyguard. After being impaled through the heart, Cole dissolves into green goo and dust. Jerry appears but Vincent using a cross and faith is able to lure the overconfident Jerry in front of a window. Just before the morning sun lights him ablaze. Jerry turns into a bat and flees to his coffin in the basement, while Amy completes her transformation and attacks Charley. By breaking the blacked-out windows in the basement, Vincent and Charley are able to expose Jerry to the sunlight and kill him.
Amy returns to normal. A few nights later Vincent returns to his Fright Night TV series and announces a break from vampires, instead selecting an alien invasion movie. The last shot shows two red eyes in the darkness, followed by Evil Ed laughing sarcastically, "Oh, you're so cool, Brewster!" indicating he might be still alive and still a vampire, thought the film never clarifies.

Charlie Brewster è un teenager appassionato di film horror sui vampiri. Una notte, mentre è in compagnia della sua ragazza, nota il nuovo vicino Jerry Dandridge, accompagnato da un servitore/guardiano Billy Cole all'apparenza normale e capace di vivere nelle ore diurne, portare fuori un sacco nero di dimensioni tali da destare più di qualche sospetto circa il suo contenuto. L'arrivo dei due nuovi vicini coincide nei giorni seguenti con ritrovamenti sospetti di corpi di giovani donne. Una sera Charlie nota, dalla finestra di casa sua, Jerry accarezzare il corpo di una giovane ragazza che finirà poi uccisa dal morso di quello che si rivelerà essere un terribile vampiro dall'aspetto molto sensuale.
Una volta rivelati i suoi sospetti Charlie non trova l'appoggio né di sua madre né tantomeno dei suo amici Amy ed Ed Thompson. Charlie prova a contattare la polizia ma dopo un breve e superficiale controllo fatto da un agente nella casa del vampiro anche questi non crede alla denuncia fatta dal ragazzo e lo prende per un visionario. A questo punto a Charlie non rimane che fare totale affidamento sul suo attore-mito Peter Vincent, un attore di telefilm horror in declino che conduce un programma televisivo intitolato "Ore d'orrore" (in inglese il programma si chiama Fright Night come il titolo originale del film), nel quale interpreta il ruolo di cacciatore di vampiri. Quando Charlie va da lui neanche Vincent gli crede e si rifiuta di aiutarlo prendendolo per pazzo.
Al suo ritorno a casa Charlie trova Jerry Dandridge che conversa in salotto con sua madre: il ragazzo viene subito colto dal panico in quanto, come raccontatogli poco prima da Ed, un vampiro può entrare in una casa solo se è invitato dal proprietario (quindi ora che la madre lo ha invitato a visitare la casa ogni volta che vorrà nulla lo potrà più fermare).
La notte stessa il vampiro fa visita a Charlie, ma il ragazzo riesce a difendersi ferendolo alla mano con una matita; le urla del vampiro svegliano la madre di Charlie facendo andare via Jerry. Emy e Ed, preoccupati dallo stato psico-fisico del loro amico, si rivolgono personalmente a Peter Vincent che questa volta si lascia "convincere" (dietro compenso economico) ad aiutare Charlie. Il piano del gruppo è semplice: provare agli occhi di Charlie che Jerry non è un vampiro; organizzano cosi un incontro a casa di Dandridge, facendogli bere della finta acqua santa. Charlie assiste senza troppa convinzione alla "bevuta" e accetta, seppur controvoglia, l'invito ad andarsene e a non importunare più il vampiro.
Mentre i ragazzi vanno via però Peter Vincent, aprendo un portasigarette con uno specchio, scopre che l'immagine di Jerry non viene riflessa. Per la paura il portasigarette gli sfugge dalle mani e va in frantumi cadendo a terra. Jerry lo raccoglie ma per la fretta lascia sul pavimento un piccolo frammento. Fuori dalla casa Charlie vedendo turbato Peter gli chiede spiegazioni; l'uomo, spaventato, ammette che Jerry Dandridge è un vampiro e scappa in auto. Nel frattempo Dandridge si accorge del frammento di specchio e intuisce che Peter è venuto a conoscenza della sua vera natura. Mentre Charlie accompagna Emy a casa Ed si allontana da loro per prendere un scorciatoia in un vicolo, ma li c'è il vampiro in agguato che aggredisce Ed, "vampirizzandolo". Quest'ultimo si reca a casa di Peter Vincent per ucciderlo ma questi riesce a scacciarlo con l'uso di una croce lasciando Ed con una vistosa bruciatura sulla fronte. Mentre Jerry insegue Charlie ed Emy questi si accorgono di lui e cercano rifugio in una discoteca: qui il vampiro però riesce ad ipnotizzare Emy e dopo aver massacrato due uomini della security porta via la ragazza. Scopriamo cosi la somiglianza tra Emy e una donna ritratta in un quadro in possesso del Vampiro. La porta nella sua dimora e la morde per trasformarla nella sua compagna.
Charlie si reca a casa di Vincent e insieme decidono di andare a liberare Emy; arrivati in loco i due entrano in casa di Dandridge ma grazie all'aiuto di Billy Cole, Peter fugge e va a casa di Charlie per avvisarne la madre. Charlie invece viene catturato e messo in una camera con Emy vampirizzata. A casa Brewster la madre di Charlie non c'è ma Peter vi trova Ed che trasformandosi in lupo cerca di ucciderlo. L'attore però riesce ad impalarlo con un piede di mobile rotto. Mentre Jerry Dandrige e Billy Cole sono in cantina per prepare una bara per Emy, Peter entra in casa del vampiro e libera Charlie, ma scoperti affrontano di nuovo il vampiro ed il suo servitore,Jerry, fugge alla vista della croce. Notando che la croce non sortisce alcun effetto su Billy Cole, Peter gli spara; dopo il primo colpo però, Cole si rianima, cosi con gli altri cinque finché Charlie non lo impala uccidendolo.
Dandrige li affronta ma è l'alba e trasformandosi in un enorme pipistrello fugge in cantina chiamando a se Emy. Il duo lo segue e mentre Peter cerca di impalare il vampiro che dorme nella sua bara, Emy interviene e Jerry si sveglia. Inizia la lotta ma scopriamo che la cantina è circondata da finestre oscurate facili da rompere. Cosi Charlie inizia rompere i vetri lanciando oggetti fino a costringere Jerry Dandrige spalle al muro, che si rivela una finestra coperta, il giovane ammazzavampiri riesce a scoprirla e, inondando di luce il vampiro, lo distrugge. Emy torna umana. Il film si chiude con Charlie ed Emy in camera che guardano "Ore d'orrore" e con Peter che dice: "per un po' non si vedranno film di vampiri, vero Charlie?"; quest'ultimo mentre chiude la finestra scorge due punti rossi nella casa del vampiro e una voce stridente fa comprendere che... non è finita veramente!
