As Bella opens her eyes as a newborn, her senses are sharpened. The transformation has made her beautiful and strong. Bella is desperate to see Renesmee, however, Renesmee is half-human, and there is a worry that Bella may not be able to control her thirst around the baby. So Bella and Edward begin to hunt. During the hunt, she catches the scent of a rock climber, and begins to hunt the human, instead of her original animal prey. However, when she is distracted by Edward, she shows extreme self-control, and returns to hunt her original target. Bella returns, and figures out that Jacob has imprinted on her daughter, which causes her to become enraged, shouting and attempting to hurt Jacob. She is then greeted by her new family, and Rosalie introduces Bella to her daughter Renesmee, who appears to have aged in three days; Carlisle describes this as an unprecendented growth rate. Bella discovers that her father has been calling on a regular basis. The suggestion is to tell Charlie that Bella has succumbed to her illness, and to then leave town. Jacob, upset at the idea of losing Renesmee, confronts Charlie and reveals himself as a wolf, proceeding to hint that Bella has undergone an "unusual" change. With guidance from her new family concerning how to act human, Bella comes face-to-face with Charlie and tells him the basic information. Renesmee is introduced as their niece but Charlie is suspicious of being lied to, when he notices she has Bella's eyes.
As the weeks progress, Renesmee grows bigger and is soon able to talk. While she is hunting for snowflakes, Renesmee is seen by Irina of the Denali Coven, who has come to apologize to the Cullens. Irina believes that Renesmee is an immortal child. As her own mother was destroyed for harbouring such a child, she becomes extremely angry, and decides to approach the Volturi. Alice has a vision of the Volturi arriving to investigate. After informing the Cullens that the Volturi will arrive when "the snow sticks to the ground", she leaves with Jasper.
Meanwhile, the other Cullens leave, sending witnesses to Edward and Bella. These witnesses are to observe Renesmee growing, hopefully preventing a fight. Initially, the other vampires react badly to Renesmee, believing the same as Irina. However, they soon see that this is not the case, and many agree to witness her development.
Bella discovers her gift is that she is a mental shield, which is why Edward cannot read her mind. Kate, who has the ability to run an electric current over her body, explains that the gift only used to be in her hands, and suggests that Bella could project her shield in a similar manner. Bella practices this, with Kate subjecting Edward to many electrice shocks. Bella doesn't do very well, until Kate suggests that they use Renesmee to practice with. Due to the increasing amount of vampires in the area, more Quileute are phasing. Sam and Jacob reunite, but remain as two packs, agreeing to fight against the Volturi, if neccessary.
As the witnesses and wolves gather, the Volturi arrive. After hearing the evidence that proves that Renesmee is not an immortal child, the Volturi execute Irina for her false allegations. Aro then states he is convinced Renesmee could still pose a threat. Before a final decision is handed down, Alice and Jasper arrive to prove that Renesmee does not pose a threat, and Aro reads Alice's hand. Alice signals Bella to get Renesmee and Jacob to run but is captured by The Volturi, which provokes a reaction from Carlisle. Aro proceeds to decapitate Carlisle and burn his body, to the horror of Esme and the other vampires. This triggers a ferocious battle between the two sides. Many are killed during the fight, including Aro. It's then revealed that, through Alice, Aro had been witnessing a vision of what would happen if the Volturi tried to kill Renesmee.
Alice and Jasper then reveal that they had found a half human/half vampire male, showing evidence that Renesmee is not a danger to the vampires' secret world. Satisfied, and to avoid his death, Aro orders the Volturi to leave peacefully. Afterward, Edward accepts Jacob as part of his family. Alice sees that Jacob will marry Renesmee, one of her few optimistic visions.
In the meadow, Bella drops her shield, and Edward can finally read her mind. She shows him her memories of their time together, and reiterates that they will have forever together.

desaparecen y no dejan más que una nota explicando que los Vulturi
llegarán cuando edurezca la nieve. Los Vulturi deciden viajar a Forks y
acabar con la niña y su familia, ante ésta amenaza y junto con los
Quileutes, los Cullen reúnen a todos los vampiros posibles para que
sirvan de testigos de la inocencia de los Cullen y por si acaso un
ejército para defender a su familia, asimismo Bella descubre que su don
es un escudo y con práctica y motivación puede extenderlo a aquellos que
protege. Ante la llegada de los Vulturi y la batalla que está por
suceder, llega Alice junto con Jasper y muestra a Aro su visión acerca
de lo que pasaría si entraran en batalla (los Vulturi morirían pero
Carlisle, Jasper, Seth y Leah también), Aro, preocupado por la inminente
muerte de todo su clan dejan que Renesmee siga con los Cullen; no sin
antes escuchar la versión de Nahuel, un híbrido (mitad humano y mitad
vampiro al igual que Renesmee) del Amazonas que demuestra que Renesmee
no será un problema para la comunidad de Vampiros en el futuro y que
llegará a su madurez a la edad de 7 años. Cuando la batalla no concluida
se ha dado, se muestran todos felices y Alice tiene una visión de
Renesmee y Jacob juntos en el futuro. Luego se muestra a Edward y a
Bella juntos en el prado que fue escenario de tantos momentos juntos, y
Bella revela sus pensamientos por primera vez a Edward al extender su

Dopo alcuni giorni di agonia la trasformazione di Bella appare completa. Al suo risveglio trova la famiglia Cullen ad attenderla e si rende conto dei cambiamenti subiti dal suo corpo. I Cullen avvertono Bella della sua forza superiore che durerà per alcuni mesi e sulla sua imprevedibile reazione al sangue umano. Tuttavia Bella riesce a dimostrare un notevole autocontrollo. Manifesta il desiderio di poter vedere sua figlia che ha chiamato Renesmee ma dal momento che la bambina è in parte umana questo desiderio non le viene concesso per tenere Renesmee al sicuro. Dopo essersi resa conto del cambiamento anche fisicamente, Bella viene accompagnata da Edward nella sua prima caccia dove si imbatte nella scia di un'essere umano, ma riesce a controllare la sua sete.
Al loro rientro, le viene concesso di vedere sua figlia e Bella si rende conto che Renesmee cresce a vista d'occhio. Inoltre viene a conoscenza del dono mentale che possiede la bambina. Infatti Renesmee riesce a trasmettere i suoi pensieri attraverso il tatto, una sorta di capovolgimento del potere di suo padre. Viene anche a conoscenza dell'imprinting di Jacob e lo affronta, ma per errore ferisce Seth e per questo si calma. I due sposi ricevono in dono dai Cullen un cottage. Hanno rapporti intimi per la prima volta dopo la trasformazione di Bella trovando finalmente un equilibrio. Intanto Renesmee cresce sempre più velocemente tanto da dimostrare quasi un anno d'età a pochi giorni dalla nascita. L'imprinting subìto da Jacob crea una tregua tra i Quileute e i Cullen. Durante una battuta di caccia nei boschi, la bambina viene notata da Irina e credendola una bambina immortale, ossia un bambino trasformato in vampiro, pratica vietata tra i vampiri, informa i Volturi. Una visione di Alice avverte i Cullen che presto i Volturi li raggiungeranno per sapere la verità su Renesmee. I Cullen cercano un modo per informare i Volturi dell'errore di Irina e decidono di procurarsi una schiera di testimoni. Rispondono all'appello di Carlisle diversi vampiri tra i quali il Clan di Denali, il Clan irlandese e il Clan Egizio.
I vampiri vengono ospitati a casa dei Cullen e durante i preparativi per affrontare l'arrivo dei Volturi, Alice e Jasper lasciano la famiglia senza dare spiegazioni. L'unico indizio della loro partenza viene lasciato a Bella che comincia ad indagare su questa decisione. Infatti la ragazza scopre che Alice le ha lasciato un messaggio su una pagina de Il mercante di Venezia, e seguendone le tracce trova l'indirizzo di un avvocato che può falsificare documenti. Bella lo ingaggia per dei documenti per Jacob e Renesmee nel caso in cui si arrivi a uno scontro con i Volturi, così da permettere ai due di scappare e mettersi in salvo.
Durante un'esercitazione con Kate, Bella scopre di possedere un potere di schermatura dai poteri mentali degli altri vampiri e si allena per estenderlo il più possibile. Dopo qualche tempo i Volturi arrivano con tutta la guardia al completo e, durante la battaglia, i Cullen e i vampiri testimoni vengono affiancati dai licantropi. Dopo aver argomentato con Carlisle, Aro si rende conto che Irina si era sbagliata e Caius la uccide davanti a tutti. Nonostante questa verità però, i Volturi valutano il pericolo di lasciare Renesmee in vita e decidono di mettere ai voti un eventuale scontro. Durante questa pausa Alec e Jane provano a destabilizzare gli avversari con i loro poteri mentali ma Bella estende il suo schermo tenendo tutti al sicuro. Mentre Aro, Caius e Marcus si rendono conto di avere a che fare con avversari tenaci, Alice e Jasper fanno il loro ritorno con Huilen e Nahuel, quest'ultimo un ibrido come Renesmee, il quale però ha raggiunto una maturità fisica da un centinaio d'anni. La prova che la bambina non rappresenta un pericolo è ormai assodata; Aro decide di lasciar perdere, anche perché, dopo aver toccato Alice, costei gli trasmette immagini dal futuro e scopre che, in un eventuale scontro, i Volturi sarebbero stati sconfitti tutti, lui compreso, dagli stessi Edward e Bella.
Dopo aver fatto ritorno a casa Bella permette ad Edward di entrare finalmente nei suoi pensieri, essendo in grado di "spostare" il suo scudo mentale e la loro eternità insieme ha inizio.
